Re Mrs. Pauline Macartney, Cromwell Hospital, Room #307.

For the information of those who have taken an interest in our Mother’s current state-of-health and successful recovery over the past two weeks since she became so very seriously ill on Friday, 12th. April 2013 when she had to be taken to hospital as an emergency measure.

The following video clip was taken within the past week in Room 307 of The Cromwell Hospital in London [http://youtu.be/b9ydP6Qe-Ho]. It records our Mother during the second week of her recovery being attended by her professional carer, Hortensia and by my wife, Michele. I hope that everyone who is receiving this email broadcast and who is able to view this brief video clip will see what a remarkable change has taken place in the course of only a few days. The attached #050.JPG file contains a still photograph of our Mother lying in bed on the same day on which the video clip was recorded.

It is now exactly a fortnight since our Mother was taken to hospital having developed very serious breathing difficulty which was caused by an infection on her chest. The 24-hour medical attention which she has received over the past fifteen days since she was admitted to the Cromwell Hospital has eliminated this infection and is now giving her the opportunity to regain her strength before she can be allowed to go home. Our mother has said that this process of recovery has taken longer than she considers necessary and that she wishes to return home as soon as possible. Her mind is as alert as it has ever been and her personality has not changed at all as a result of her recent illness. The doctor who is principally responsible for her care on a daily basis is said to be amazed by the pace and the completeness of her recovery so far and has gone so far as to say that he considers that the nature of her recovery amounts to being nothing short of a ‘miracle’. He is not a doctor who would seem to be given to exaggeration nor to overstatement for the sake of creating dramatic effect.

The plan is for those of us who are in London and who have taken such a sympathetic interest in our Mother’s health in recent day to attend a small tea party on the roof sun deck of the Cromwell Hospital either this weekend on Sunday afternoon or as early as possible this coming week. This will provide our Mother with an opportunity to leave her hospital room for a period of three or four hours and to enjoy the warm afternoon sunshine which we are now benefiting from in London. Our Mother will be able to do this in the company of many of those people who have cared for her in recent days without becoming overwhelmed and exhausted by having this many people in her hospital room as has occasionally happened over the past ten days. An afternoon spent drinking tea or possibly a glass or two of champagne in the Cromwell Hospital Roof Garden with her family and carers around her will be an encouraging ‘next stage’ in her recovery.

We also hope to be able to take her in a wheelchair for an afternoon in Kensington Gardens or in Holland Park. We hope that this will be able to happen within the next week. You should receive an email from me on the subject of the progress of our Mother’s recovery as frequently as is necessary for me to be able to keep you as well informed as possible in the event of any significant developments in her health and well-being. The emails which you should receive may well include more video and audio clips and more .jpg still photographs of our Mother hopefully enjoying a full recovery from her illness and benefiting from the already-excellent standard of medical care which has been provided to her by the staff of the Cromwell Hospital. You should receive an email from me on at least a weekly basis or possibly more often in the event of any significant developments in our Mother’s health.

Please feel free to email me at mailto:tim@robarts.com with any questions, comments or suggestions which may come to mind. I would welcome any correspondence from anyone who is within this group who has taken a sympathetic and intelligent interest in the subject of our Mother’s health over the past fortnight and who wishes to continue to do so by receiving regular email updates as I have described in this first email broadcast.
